Anne Hathaway's Early Life

Anne Hathaway was born in 1556 at Shottery, near Stratford-upon-Avon. Her father, Richard Hathaway, was a substantial farmer, while her mother, Agnes, was the daughter of a local yeoman.

Anne's Marriage to William Shakespeare

In November 1582, Anne Hathaway married William Shakespeare, who was 18 years old at the time. The couple had three children together: Susanna, born in 1583; Hamnet, born in 1585; and Judith, born in 1588.

Anne and William Shakespeare lived in Stratford-upon-Avon for most of their married life. William Shakespeare wrote many of his famous plays during this time, including Hamlet, Romeo and Juliet, and Macbeth.

Anne Hathaway's Later Life

After William Shakespeare's death in 1616, Anne Hathaway continued to live in Stratford-upon-Avon. She died in 1623 and was buried in the same grave as her husband.

Anne Hathaway is remembered today as the wife of William Shakespeare. She was a strong and supportive woman who helped to make Shakespeare's career possible.
